OPTIMIST COACH

The Optimist Coach is responsible for the leadership & coaching the growing Opti fleet.  This will involve daily instruction as well as on-the-water coaching at local & travel regattas. The Optimist Coach will be responsible for the safety & supervision of our Opti sailors while fostering a positive environment where our junior sailors feel both challenged and supported by their teammates and coach.

In addition, he/she will:·      

  • Work with the Head instructor to develop a summer-long syllabus for the intermediate & racing Opti classes
  • Plan and execute daily lesson plans to refine sailors’ knowledge of boat handling, boat speed, tactics & strategy as well as racing rules
  • Assist with Opti fleet maintenance throughout the summer
  • Help organize and supervise travel to and from local and regional regattas
  • Provide on-the-water coaching at regattas
  • Partner with local programs for team racing practice
  • Provide KSEA Program Director & Head Instructor with timely information about calendar events, including NOR, registration information, etc.

The Opti Coach must be US Sailing Level 2 certified by the first day of the sailing season. KSEA will assist with the cost of certification. CPR and First Aid certification will be given on site during the first week of the season. Minimum two seasons of coaching experience preferred.

ASSISTANT OPTIMIST RACE COACH

Working closely with the Optimist Coach, the Optimist Assistant Coach will be responsible for the daily instruction of all Opti classes.  This may also involve on-the-water coaching at local & travel regattas.

In addition, he/she will:

  • Plan and execute daily lesson plans to refine sailors’ knowledge of rigging & derigging, boat handling, boat speed, basic seamanship and racing rules
  • Assist with Opti fleet maintenance throughout the summer
  • Help to organize and supervise travel to and from local and regional regattas
  • Assist with hosting and running regattas hosted by KSEA
  • Maintain a safe environment for all Opti sailors, both on & off the water

The Opti Assistant Coach must be US Sailing Level 1 certified by the first day of the sailing season. KSEA will assist with the cost of certification. CPR and First Aid certification will be given on site during the first week of the season. Minimum one season of coaching experience preferred.

420 ASSISTANT COACH

Working closely with the Head Instructor/ 420 Coach, the 420 Assistant Coach will be responsible for the daily instruction of all 420 classes.  This will also involve on-the-water coaching at local & travel regattas.

In addition, he/she will:

  • Plan and execute daily lesson plans to refine sailors’ knowledge of boathandling (including spinnaker and trapeze work), boatspeed, tactics and strategy, and racing rules
  • Assist with 420 fleet maintenance throughout the summer
  • Help to organize and supervise travel to and from local and regional regattas
  • Assist with hosting and running regattas hosted by KSEA
  • Maintain a safe environment for all 420 sailors, both on & off the water

ROWING INSTRUCTOR

The Rowing Instructor will be responsible for leading daily lessons to 6 to 8-year old aspiring sailors, focusing on rowing instruction, water safety, boat handling & knot tying.  The Rowing Instructor will maintain a safe environment for all rowers while providing fun & exciting introduction to boats & being on the water.

The Rowing Instructor position is part-time with all classes being held in the morning.  CPR and First Aid certification is required and will be given on site during the first week of the season. Leadership/teaching experience with 6 to 8-year olds is preferred.
