The topics are covered using a variety of techniques in the classroom and dockside, emphasizing on-the-water practical application of all skills. Topics covered include:

• Starting procedures
• Leaving & returning to a slip
• Close-quarters maneuvers
• Steering a range
• Proceeding to a destination
• Person in water rescue
• Safety, prep & weather

• Equipment requirements
• Prep & fueling procedures

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) has approved the course, which also meets the boating safety requirements in many states in the USA. Maine does not require boat operators to be certified, almost every other state does.
Certifications Earned: NASBLA certificate, Safe Powerboat Handling certificate
Fee: $250/per person: includes all books, safety equipment and on-the-water instruction. This course costs up to $400 at other venues. We are discounting the course substantially to encourage our membership and community to get certified. We believe in safety on the water.
Registration: To register please contact KSEA Program Director, Springer Huseby at firstname.lastname@example.org. To secure your place, please be sure to register before July 31. On August 1st, US Sailing will post the course, and registration will be open to the general public.
